Earlier this month, we launched our new five-year strategic plan, a roadmap for growing our tuition-free programs from more than 700 students to over 1,000. Today, we’re taking the first step on that path.
We’re excited to welcome The Riverseed School, a Montessori school in the DC Wildflower Public Charter School network, to our Arthur Ashe Children’s Program (AACP).
Inside AACP
AACP meets four days a week for two hours after school throughout the academic year. Our students start with homework support and a snack. Then they prepare for structured academic and tennis competitions against other AACP partner schools, including a trivia bowl, a public speaking competition, and a spelling bee. Along the way, they build teamwork, resilience, and a love of learning.
Riverseed students now join that lineup. They’ll study, practice, and compete alongside peers from across our partner schools, and they’ll carry what they learn into their classrooms and their lives.
Built on 70 years
Seventy years ago, WTEF opened its doors with a simple belief: every child deserves access to tennis, education, and the life skills that carry them into adulthood. Our new strategic plan builds on that same belief, sharpened by everything our students, families, coaches, and donors have taught us since.
The plan sets three priorities:
- Elevate our programs and operations so our foundation is strong enough to grow
- Expand our reach to serve more students
- Deepen our engagement with the donors, advocates, and partners who make this work possible
Riverseed’s arrival puts the second priority into motion just weeks after launch. As we grow, we’re keeping the same high-quality tennis instruction, academic enrichment, and life-skills development that have always defined WTEF. Our goal and mission remain the same: support more young people in becoming life champions on and off the court.
Join us on the path to 1,000
Reaching 1,000 students takes a team. You can be part of it through philanthropy, volunteering, or sharing what our students are building here with your own network.
Welcome, Riverseed! We’re excited to have your students join us on the court.
