Center for Excellence Graduation

Legg Mason & WTEF Hold Graduation for Center for Excellence Senior Scholars on Capitol Hill

WTEF staff, Legg Mason representatives, distinguished guests, and proud families gathered at the Russell Senate Office Building on June 13th for the 14th consecutive year to celebrate that 100% of the Legg Mason/WTEF Center for Excellence (CFE) Senior Scholars have gained admission to college on academic and athletic scholarship and financial aid packages. Eleni Rossides opened the event with a warm welcome to the WTEF family assembled.

Sarah Parker (Class of 2012) acted as the student host for the event, and Charrisha Watkins (Class of 2009), who is now an undergraduate student at Gettysburg College, spoke about the role that WTEF has played in her life from her new perspective as a college graduate. Peter Davidson, Senior VP at Verizon Communications and former WTEF President, gave the keynote speech and reminded the graduates that the knowledge and skills they have acquired at WTEF will benefit them for the rest of their lives.  Michael Ray, Director of Trading for Legg Mason Capital Management and a WTEF Director, imparted motivational words to the graduates, urging them to “keep going, no matter what” in the pursuit of their dreams.

In addition to honoring the graduating seniors and honor roll students, WTEF presented each graduate with the inaugural Julius A. Johnson scholarship, named after WTEF’s late board member, Jay Johnson, who possessed a true passion for community service and philanthropy.
