Position: WTEF Fellowship

Opportunity: $25,000 Alumni Bridge Program (ABP) Fellowship via the Fight For Children Institute

Immediate Supervisor: Vice President, WTEF

Purpose of Fellowship: To assist alumni with the building of their career path and passion, WTEF has teamed with the Fight for Children Institute (FFCI) to provide a $25,000 grant to one WTEF alumni who successfully completes a five-month Fellowship program to obtain professional and career development experience. The ABP Fellowship begins May 1, 2022, and ends August 30, 2022, and offers hands-on learning, executive shadowing, and on-the-job training with industry-based employers during summer programming and professional events. The $25,000 award will go directly to the Fellow upon successful completion of the Fellowship activities. The award is for the furtherance of their career, payment of college debt, and investment into their future.

Measurements of Success:

  • Successful completion of coursework and training on the topics of leadership
    development, tennis coaching, and court behaviors, and tennis business management
  • Attainment of professional tennis coaching certification(s)
  • Submission of a final dissertation related to non-profit, sports management, and tennis careers
  • Fellow career pathway outcomes at 18 months post-fellowship

Duties:

  • Complete all fellowship related coursework and training (e.g., tennis coaching, court behaviors, tennis business management)
  • Provide event planning support as needed with all aspects of planning, implementing, and
    hosting of WTEF’s annual Tennis Ball and the Citi Open Tennis Tournament.
  • Attend and actively participate in meetings and engagement events with WTEF senior
    staff; local, regional, and national level partners; public and private funders; WTEF Board of Directors; and vendors
  • Document fellowship experience and related professional development in a Learning Curriculum and Diary that will be used to provide helpful feedback to WTEF and track continual growth post-fellowship
  • Write and present a final dissertation that researches non-profit, sports management, and tennis careers in 2022 and beyond
  • Take on the role of mentor to WTEF participants

Education and Experience:

  • Highly-motivated WTEF alumni
  • Demonstrated activities to succeed in college, the workforce, military, or trade school
  • Between the ages of 18-26
  • Actively pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a non-profit or sports management
    field and/or considering owning a tennis coaching business

Preferred Skills:

  • Demonstrated time management, organization, and project management skills
  • Self-motivated, able to problem-solve, offer options
  • Fit to be on the court as both a coach and hitting partner for WTEF youth
  • Able to meet or be ahead of schedule on projects and deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal skills, capable of engaging a variety of audiences and stakeholders
  • Ability to follow directions as given, listen to and incorporate constructive feedback, and adapt as needed
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and social media platforms
