Fund a Future

Fund a Future: Fund a Child

The Fund a Future campaign is WTEF’s ongoing effort to secure the funding necessary to operate our programs for underserved children and youth in Washington, DC.  Every year, we enrich the lives of more than 1,200 children with academic support, life skills and tennis instruction.

WTEF is the premier nonprofit educational and athletic organization for children and youth living in Washington, DC’s low-income, high risk neighborhoods.  We provide high quality afterschool academic, tennis and wellness programs in a safe, trustworthy environment.  Our programs empower students to achieve their highest potential by helping them improve their academic performance while they develop meaningful values and critical life skills that will lead them to make constructive choices.  We’re not after tennis champions; WTEF builds life champions!

At the Tennis Ball, the Fund a Future campaign kicks off. First, the audience meets some of the children who we serve.  Then, early gifts made directly to WTEF are announced and a round of spirited charitable bidding follows.  In 2015, Tennis Ball attendees and pre-Tennis Ball donors gave more than $200,000 to support WTEF’s programs. This year, our goal is $250,000.

So, if you are coming to the Tennis Ball, think about the gift you’d like to make that evening to enrich the lives of children and youth who battle poverty and violence in their surroundings every day.

If you can’t come to the Tennis Ball, you can still participate in the Fund a Future campaign by making your tax-deductible donation now.  Your gift will have a direct and powerful impact on the lives of boys and girls who need our help to fulfill their full potential.

Here are examples of what your gift can accomplish:

A gift of $5,000 enrolls a child in our Center for Excellence, where he or she gets 15 hours a week of individualized tutoring in math and reading and small group tennis instruction after school;

$1,000 supports a child in the Arthur Ashe Children’s Program where he or she gets eight hours a week of academic, life skills and tennis instruction after school;

$500 enables WTEF to test a child’s math and reading skills and develop an individualized curriculum for that child;

$250 sponsors a young child in our Tennis Tots program for an entire semester.
