 WTEF
has developed strong working relationships with many area
organizations to make sure that our students receive the
best possible after school instruction.
The Center for Artistry in
Teaching – This partnership provides AACP
teachers and aides with a series of five professional development
workshops to strengthen their general teaching skills and
to provide them with activities they can use in their classrooms.
DC Public Schools – The
Arthur Ashe Children’s Program (AACP) works in close
partnership with DC Public Schools. AACP staff members work
with each principal to select two of the school’s
teachers to lead the academic portions of the program and
to assist with the tennis component. The AACP then uses
school classrooms for education workshops, school auditoriums
for academic competitions and parent meetings, and tennis
courts on school property for tennis lessons.
DC Department of Recreation
and Parks – WTEF works closely with the DC
Department of Recreation and Parks to help to maintain public
tennis courts and to schedule public court time throughout
the year for use by the AACP, often bringing students to
park facilities that might otherwise be underutilized.
 Legg
Mason – Legg Mason’s support of WTEF programs goes beyond
its sponsorship of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic. Since 2005, Legg Mason has been the
sponsor of the WTEF Center for Excellence Junior and Senior classes.
National Park Service –
WTEF has been providing successful tennis and academic
programming for at-risk youth on land owned and operated
by the National Park Service at Rock Creek Park at 16th
and Kennedy Sts., NW. All WTEF programs are aligned with
the National Park Service’s goals of helping communities
create community centers and recreational facilities.
Reading Is Fundamental®
– WTEF has partnered with this nationally-acclaimed
literacy program to create the Arthur Ashe Reading Is Fundamental®
Program.
Recording for the Blind &
Dyslexic – the AACP utilizes the RFBD’s
"Great Book Series" audio recordings to help improve
students’ reading skills.
Shoes That Fit - Now
in its third year, a partnership with Shoes That Fit provides
one AACP school each year with new, brand name tennis shoes
that are donated by private individuals.
